Kuwait... a war zone?

It's back to kuwait again. When you first get here you get about a 2 hour brief on finance, what the uniform is, and about the FOB (Forward Operating Base). During this briefing we got to watch a video made by the Commanding General of this FOB. I don't know what he is thinking, but in this video he welcomes the viewers to a "War Zone." At that point the audience erupts in laughter because we are all going to Iraq and most of us have been there before. I would like to know why they think we are in a war zone and do not supply us with any ammunition...

All in all this is just a place to sleep for 1 to 2 weeks until they decide it's time for you to go to the big sandbox in the north. Until then, ZZZZzzzzzzzzzz

Hey Mark, it was good to find out that you are alive and well finally!!! Although Erick isn't the most reliable of contact sources, he is always online and he did get the info to us. Thanks for that, we really appreciate it. Birgit was getting misty and sniffling when Erick told her that you were in chat with him.

I let the family know about this site so that we can all follow your adventures and progress. We do have a Christmas CARE package ready for you to send as soon as you have an address. Yes, Birgit will be the one sending it, not me, so you are sure to receive it. Again, thanks for letting us all know where you are and how you are doing. Much appreciated.

What's up Markus! How come you never called. That was dumb. Anyway. How is life in Kuwait. At least you are there in December and not in August. A little bit cooler that way! Anyway. My arabic is coming along well, and business is picking up for the Christmas season. Danica and I got lucky the other day and asked a Wal-Mart employee if they had any Guitar Hero 3's, and he opened a whole box of them. So we bought some, and now are selling them to unfortunate buyers on the internet. Isn't Capitolism fun?! Anyway. Hope you are enjoying yourself. Talk to you later,
Hank

Howdy, Mark! Sorry that you're back in the sand. I'm glad that you're doing the blog - I always worry about you when you're deployed there and now I'll know more of what's going on! I love you. You are in our prayers.

Hello Mark -- from Uncle Rick. We will enjoy following your adventures. Our thougths and prayers will be with you. We appreciate the work that you are doing and are proud of you.

We had a big winter storm here this weekend. It left lots of snow. Actually two storms back to back. The first was heavy wet snow - great for snowmen and coating the trees. The second was light dry snow that drifted in the wind and turned everything sparkly white. It is very pretty right now and puts one in the Christmas Spirit.

Your Aunt Linda and I got to go to the White House Christmas party last Tuesday. It was a grand adventure. When we were about to be introduced to the President and Mrs. Bush, the military aide (Marine Corp) that was escorting us, turned to me and said - "now this is Linda with you and how should I introduce her?" I thought for a moment and said wife, but in retrospect, I wish that I would have said --"my commander in chief."

We wish you the best for the holidays and again, appreciate what you are doing!

Uncle Rick
